Thursdays belong to Scotland Boulevard
If you want to find Thursday night in Bridgewater this summer, go to 25 Scotland Blvd. That's Black Hat Brew Works, and since June 25 it has hosted the Friends of Music Alley concert series every Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The music is acoustic, the shows are free, and a rotating food truck handles dinner. It's built for families, not a bar crowd. Bring a lawn chair and you're set for the evening.
The season closes on August 27, so the final concert is today.
The series ran for years as an alley show next to a historic building downtown, before a roofing project on the building led organizers to move it to Black Hat's outdoor space.
Saturdays move to the river
The second address is 80 Spring St, known locally as Town River Landing, or The Launch. This is where the Bridgewater Farmers Market and Craft Fair sets up on select Saturdays through the season, most recently on Saturday, August 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Vendors sell produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses, and handmade crafts, and the whole thing is run by the Fire For Effect Foundation, a nonprofit built around supporting veterans and first responders. Every dollar the market generates goes back into that mission.
The foundation describes its work at Town River Landing as "revitalizing the Town River Landing Project." The riverfront gathering spot is still being rebuilt for community use.
The same location gets a bigger moment on October 25, when the South Shore Farmer Brew Fest returns for its seventh year, with more than 20 breweries, multiple food trucks, and live music, again at Town River Landing. Seven years running is long enough that this has stopped being a pop-up and started being a fixture on the South Shore beer calendar, one that happens to sit on the same patch of riverfront the farmers market uses all summer.
The Dome's Summer Events
The third address doesn't sound like a gathering space at all: the Bridgewater Sports Complex, known around town as the Dome. On Saturday, August 22, the Dome hosted its own Makers Faire from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the farmers market took place later that day from 2 to 5 p.m. September 19 brings the Dome's Golden Harvest Gathering on the same 10-to-2 schedule.
